Love Goes On Page 17

Just then the doorbell rang. “Well, there they are.”

I opened the door, and Kaden’s parents were standing in the doorway wearing very proper clothes. I didn’t even realize I was staring at their royal apparel!

“Well, are we going to get a greeting?” Kaden’s mother asked.

“I’m sorry. Hello,” I greeted both of them as I invited them into our home and shook their hands. “Follow me this way, please,” I said as I led them to the dining room and seated them. Then I went into the kitchen. “Okay, I’m getting so nervous my hands are sweating,” I whispered to Kaden.

“You’ll be okay. I forgot to tell you I can’t eat with you,” Kaden whispered back.

  “Why not?”

“It’s improper for me to eat when I’m the servant.”

“So you’re leaving me to entertain them.”

“I’m sorry, but Heather is there. She’ll help you.”

“I know, but I would prefer you in there too.”

“I can’t. Now go sit down, and I’m going to start serving when you are seated.”

I sat down, and then Kaden came out with the appetizer. Once everyone had a plate,

Kaden explained what was on them and then left.

I picked up my fork smelling the delicious food, but I was stopped by a hand taking my fork from me. I looked up to see Heather staring at me with concern. Then she leaned over to my ear.

“Never take a bite before they do,” Heather directed.

I sat back and then glanced up to see Kaden’s parents staring at me.

  “I’m sorry I wasn’t informed of this.” I proclaimed.

“Well, now you are, try and listen more,” Kaden’s Dad explained.

At this point I was becoming upset and somewhat angry at the chain of events with this meal and Kaden’s parents.

Once they took their first bite, we all followed. Then the first meal arrived followed by the second meal and finally dessert.

By then, I was tired of just hearing forks click on the table, so I decided to start a conversation.

“Heather, how have you been?” I asked. Heather didn’t say a word and I felt all eyes were on me. I looked toward the king and queen to find them peering at me. “Let me guess, I’m not allowed to speak either?” I questioned him angrily.

He shook his head negatively. “You’re supposed to address Rhonda and me first,” Kaden’s father announced as he gestured to himself and Kaden’s mother.

I stood up. “All right, you know what this is—STUPID and these rules are STUPID too,”

I responded angrily as I rushed to my bedroom locking the door behind me and throwing myself on the bed crying my eyes out.

After twenty minutes I heard everyone laughing and having a grand time. I didn’t come out though. I remained in the bedroom the remainder of the night. Soon I heard a knock on the door.

“Go away please,” I commanded sadly.

“Sara, it’s your mom. Please let me in,” Mom pleaded.

“I love you, Mom, but I would like to be left alone.”

“Okay. Well, we love you, and we’re leaving. Good night.”

“I love you guys too. Good night”

I head her walking away and saying good-bye to everyone else. I should have allowed my mom in the bedroom, but she’s out there talking to the guests and laughing. Why were

Kaden’s parent’s so mean to me? Kaden himself told me to not worry and be myself, and that’s what I did, only to find out that his parents were not nice after all.

After I heard everyone leave, I unlocked the bedroom door and went to bed thinking of how his parents acted tonight.

The next morning I awoke to find Kaden playing with my hair and looking at me with love shining through his eyes.

  “Good morning,” Kaden greeted.

“Let me guess. You hate me?” I responded.

“I’ll never hate you, Babe; I have a letter here from my parents.” He handed me an envelope. “Please read it, and I’ll be with the pugs outback watching the construction workers.” We kissed and then he left shutting the door behind him.

I opened the envelope but I stopped and just stared at the envelope not wanting to open it. I finally opened it and found a sterling silver necklace with a ruby flower and a note inside.

“Wow!” I exclaimed aloud as I laid the necklace on the dresser. Then I began to read the following letter:

  Dear Sara,

We meant no harm last night. We were only trying to see how much pressure you can take before you get mad. You may think this is crazy because I’m saying these words, but this is a part of being Princess of Rome. We wanted to see how you would do with it the first time we saw you.

We know that this was not a good first impression face to face but we wanted to do this before we actually talked to you so we could get the full effect of how you would act when

  We were rude to you.

We have to say you did well. We were very impressed with you, but we were upset that we hurt your feelings. We hope that you are not mad at us for what we did. We only did that for the fact when you become princess, there will be people who will be rude and will pressure you at times. You have to be able to stand it and respond back with kindness and not act like you’re hurt by how you’re talked to.

We have placed a gift in the envelope for you, as we imagine you’ve seen this gift already. We hope you like it and forgive us.

  With all our love,

The King and Queen of Rome

I put the letter back into the envelope and set it on my dresser beside the necklace. Now I knew why they were so rude to me. In a way I wished that I would have stayed and found this out last night at dinner. Everyone probably thinks I’m a brat by how I acted last night.

I couldn’t help it though. But now Kaden’s parents think I’m mad at them, and that’s not true. I was only upset because I didn’t know what I was supposed to be doing at dinner. It seemed like I was doing all the wrong things.

That’s why I had gotten upset last night. Now I have to explain my actions to my parent’s and everyone else. I hope they understand my reasons for reacting the way I did.

I got up and walked outside to see Kaden sitting on the bench facing the lake with the pugs playing at his feet. I stepped over and sat next to him. Only the worst came to my mind.

“Kaden, I’m sorry about last night.”

He sighed. “Sara, my parents weren’t being mean on purpose.”

“How was I supposed to know that?” I questioned Kaden angrily.

“It’s all right, but next time don’t leave the table; that was very disrespectful.”

“Disrespectful! Your parents were disrespectful to me!” I half yelled at him.

  “They did not mean it!”

“Like I said, how was I supposed to know they were not meaning it? Nobody gave me a warning, and nobody cared to explain anything to me before I walked away.”

“Well, I was not permitted to tell you.”

“Someone could have explained what was going on after the fact when I really got mad.”

“Okay, I’m sorry for that, but you stormed off, and no one wanted to bother you.”

“Still, I would have listened; and if someone had told me what was meant by the meanness, I would have understood, apologized and sat back down. Do you not expect me to get mad when I had no clue what was going on?”

“No, Sara, I did not expect you to not get mad, and I didn’t expect you to get up and leave the table either.”

“Well, I was hurt, and I wasn’t about to sit there and keep taking the evil stares and rude comments.”

“I’m sorry you were hurt. Did you read the letter?”

“I did and I accept their apology. I
loved the gift.”

  “That’s good.”

“Will you tell them that I’m sorry?”

  “I will.”

  “What’s the matter?”

“I’m just upset by last night, that’s all.”

I huffed. “Why? I explained myself to you.”

“No, that’s not what I mean. I’m upset that they chose to do that last night rather than another time. I wanted this dinner to be a wonderful time and a great first gathering.”

“I hope we can do this again without my parents wanting to ruin it.”

“Do they always do this to you?”

  “They do. It upsets me.”

“So do they only do it to your girlfriends?”

“That’s not what I mean. My parents do this all the time to everyone I meet.”

  “Oh!” I exclaimed gloomily.

“It’s starting to get to me.”

“Well, why’d you chew me out for not staying in the dining room?”

  “Because you were disrespectful.”

“Why don’t you tell your parent’s that you don’t appreciate their rudeness?”

“Because they would scold me for telling them.”

“I gave him a What Do You Mean Look. It’s only an opinion.”

“When you’re a king and queen, you have a say.”

  “What about princes and princesses?”

  “We have a say sometimes.”

“Are they getting mad because you are still putting off getting married?”

“They were, but I told them last night that we are getting married and have the date set, so they are okay with it now.”

“I’m glad. Please don’t be mad anymore today.”

He grinned. “It’s difficult to stay angry when I look at you,” he glanced at me and smiled wholeheartedly. Then we kissed. “I love you.”

  “I love you too.”

“What do you want to do today?”

“Why don’t we play the Wii?”

“That sounds fun, just like a relaxing day!”

  “Exactly.”

We stood up and strolled toward the house with the pugs at our heels. When we went inside we put in Resident Evil 4.

We played the game for hours and then realized it was dinnertime. We turned off the game. I fixed dinner and Kaden took out the pugs and saying good-bye to the workers.

Tonight I’m cooking baked ziti with salad. Kaden came back later and sat at the table.

  “That smells delicious!” Kaden sniffed.

“Yes, it does. Can you put this pan of ziti in the oven for me? I might spill it.” I responded.

“Certainly,” he said as he got up and put the pan in the oven.

I started fixing the salad. “I’ve seen something on the Internet that I really want.” I announced.

  “What’s that?” Kaden questioned.

  “An Ipad Touch!”

“Wow! I’ve seen those on the Internet too. They look really neat!”

  “That’s why I want one.”

“Well, I’m not stopping you from buying it.”

“I didn’t want to order it if you disagreed.”

  “No, I don’t.”

“Okay, well, I’m going to order it one day next week.”

“I’m going to be gone on Thursday of next week.”

  “Why?”

“I have to go to Rome from Thursday to Saturday.”

I sighed. “Well, I guess that’s when I’ll get my Ipad, so I’ll have something to do.”

“There you go. I’ll call you every night, so don’t worry.”

“I’m going to be nervous being here by myself; but I have the pugs.”

  “I’m sure they’ll protect you.”

After a while longer, the food was done and we ate. Then we cleaned up the kitchen.

Kaden took the pugs outside while I showered and dressed. When he came in the bedroom, Kaden crawled into bed alongside me.

  “Today was nice,” I commented.

“It was. We’ll have to do that more often.”

“Yeah, if we ever find time.”

  “That’s right.”

“Don’t forget to tell your parents that I am not mad at them.”

“I will one day this coming week.”

“Good.” We kissed each other goodnight.

  Kaden’s Trip to Rome

Today Kaden was leaving. I saw him off to the airport. I missed him already, but. I knew he’d be calling me and would be back Saturday. I didn’t go to school today so I could spend the day with Kaden before he left. I planned to order my Ipad touch and I wanted to go to Wal-Mart to purchase a 16 GB Ipod touch.

I hope Kaden had a safe trip to Rome. I had been thinking about visiting Rome before I made my final decision whether I wanted to move there or not. Kaden explained to me that Rome seemed to be nice country. But Kaden had lived there since he was born. So he obviously would say that. I didn’t think he’d lie to me, but still it’s a decision to be made.

My hometown had been here since I was born. Although, some kids would be astounded to move; I’m not one of those people. I enjoyed living here. This was where I had been all my life, and still want to be.

I knew Kaden really wanted me to move to Rome with him. He was being a good sport because I was taking so long to make a decision on what I really wanted to do. I was glad that I had Kaden in my life. He had made my life better in all the right ways.

I had a meeting with my planner for my wedding on Saturday. I couldn’t believe I was getting married next year. I never thought I would be one of those girls that got right out of school and got married.

Love does some wild things. I’m one to vogue that it was true. I still remembered the fight Kaden and I got into awhile back. It wasn’t fun at all, but it showed Kaden and me that we both loved each other to the fullest extent.

Susie and Jake were doing very well. Jake keeps in touch with Susie. Susie feels that they’re coming closer together day by day. She’s told me she knows it’s not easy for another guy to fall in love with a woman when they’re carrying a child from another guy. But she hopes he doesn’t take too long to love her because she doesn’t know how much longer she can hold off telling him that she loves him.

I’m glad to be marring Kaden, but I was scared that the marriage would ruin our relationship. I had to see though, but I had a feeling we would become closer when we married and had children. I had not told Anna that I was getting married and had yet to tell her about what happened with Susie.

I didn’t think it was my place to tell Anna about Susie’s pregnancy. But I would like to tell her about Jake. I wondered if Susie would mind if I told Anna about Jake. I texted her and asked.

“Susie, do you mind if I tell Anna about Jake?” I questioned.

I sat my phone down and took out my laptop. I got onto the Ipad website and purchased one with the most gigabits. After I ordered the Ipad I turned off my laptop and sat it down. I gathered my purse preparing to leave for Wal-Mart soon. I texted Anna to see if she wanted to go shopping with me. She answered yes. Before I began driving to pick up Anna my phone chimed. I saw it was Susie who was texting me.

  “Hey, Sara,” Susie said.

“Hey! How are you and baby doing?” I asked.

“We’re both good. The baby is a mover, let me tell you. Ha-ha!”

“I bet you love feeling her move.”

“Oh, definitely! Sometimes the baby moves so much at night that I can’t sleep.”

  “Oh, I’m sorry about that.”

“Don’t be sorry I got to deal with it, there’s nothing I can do about it until I have the baby.”

  “Well, maybe so
, but I hope you can rest. Not only do you need it, but baby does too.”

“Well, enough about me. What are you doing today?”

“I’m going shopping with Anna. That’s where I was headed before you texted me.”

“Am I being a bother to you?”

“Not in a million years, Susie!”

“I guess I’ll let you go anyway.”

“I hope you can get some rest today.”

“Not likely. Jake is coming for a visit!”

“That’s going to be great! I hope the two of you have a grand time!”

  “Thank you, Sara.”

“Love you, Sis. Take good care of yourself and that baby.”

“Love you too. I’m doing the best that I can.”

“I know, Honey. I’ll message you again soon.”

I waited for what seemed to be ten minutes waiting for Susie to reply, but she didn’t. I debated on texting her to see if I’d hurt her feelings by what I said, but then again maybe she fell asleep. Once I picked Anna up at her house then we headed to Wal-Mart.

“How have you been?” I asked Anna.

“I’ve been good. How have you been?” Anna asked.

“I’ve been great! But you seem to be sad.”

“I’ve been running low on money this week and its Rick’s birthday today; I don’t have a gift to give him.”

“Your Mom can’t provide you with money?”

“No. My mom is strapped on money right now.”

“I tell you what. You pick out whatever you want to buy him and I’ll pay for it.”

“I couldn’t and wouldn’t let you do that.”

“No matter what you say I will give you money to buy a gift.”

She giggled. “I hate how you can tell when something’s wrong with me.”

“I’m supposed to be able to tell. I’m your friend, aren’t I?” I smiled.

She smiled back as we entered the store parking lot. I picked out an Ipod touch. I had to pay for it in the electronics department because they wouldn’t allow me to wander through the store with it. After I paid for my Ipod; Anna bought Rick a couple movies he’s been wanting, a gift card and a birthday card. Once I paid we climbed into my car and drove toward her house.
