Susie! Kaden bought me another pug!” I exclaimed.
“Oh, well! That’s good!” She spoke sadly.
“Why do you seem so sad?” Kaden inquired.
“Well, I thought Sara was pregnant!” She responded.
“No, Susie. I want to finish high school and get through college first,” I explained.
“That’s a good plan! But too bad I beat you to the baby!” Susie exclaimed excitedly.
I looked at her with confusion “Susie, are you pregnant?” I queried worrisomely.
“I am, and with Josh’s baby!” She answered with a deep sigh.
I got up and hugged her. “Oh, Susie! I’m so happy for you, but can you handle this?” I asked worriedly. A storm began, and the lights went out. It was a good thing that it was daytime and not so dark in the house. “Well, what do we do now?” Susie questioned.
“I have to telephone Heather and some other important people,” Kaden stated.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea when it’s storming out?” I asked worriedly.
“I’m going to use my cell phone.”
“Okay. Susie and I will go in the living room with the pugs and talk,” I said.
He left. Susie and I placed the dishes in the sink. Then we sat in the living room with the pugs.
I picked up Coco. “This is Coco! Our newest addition” I stated.
Susie took him, and he licked her. She chuckled. “Oh, Sara, he’s a cutie!”
I laughed. “Yeah, Sadie and Coco get along like peas in a pod!”
“That’s great that she likes him!”
I smiled. Susie put Coco down, and he ran into the bed with Sadie.
Susie giggled. “I see what you mean now!”
“Yeah, they really like each other, and that’s a good thing because I’m breeding them.”
“Awe, really! I want a puppy!” She exclaimed excitedly.
I chuckled. “You can have one puppy but, Riley gets first pick!”
“Fair enough.”
“Now what about this baby?”
“Well, that night before we went to the club, Josh and I made love, so I’m guessing that’s when I got pregnant. A month after Josh passed away on March 15th; I started to feel dizzy and began throwing up, so I went to the doctor thinking I was coming down with something. The Doctor gave me a pregnancy test. It came back positive. My mom didn’t say anything in the Doctor’s office, but I knew she was mad. The doctor did an ultra sound and determined I’m a month and one week along. My due date is December 20th of next year. When my mom and I got into the car, she was furious with me. I asked her why she was so mad at me, and she told me that I had just ruined my future.”
Susie started crying.
“Well, having a baby does take away many things from you. Not only does the baby require a great deal of care, but you can’t do things you used to do with your friends or even relax,” I stated with concern
Susie gave me a mean look. “Why is everyone so mad at me? I’m keeping my baby!”
“Oh, Susie, I never meant to sound like you should give your baby to adoptive parents.
I’m sorry.”
She smiled. “It’s alright, Sara. I’m having hormone imbalances.”
“Don’t worry about it, Susie.”
“In the beginning of my eighth month, can I come here to stay? I want to have my baby at the hospital where I was born at.”
“I’ll have to see, Susie. You’ve already asked to stay with us for the summer. Why don’t you ask your mom for forgiveness? I’m sure she will forgive you.”
“My mom made it quite clear she doesn’t want me at the house with the baby,” she responded sadly.
“I’ll talk to Kaden about it and see what he says. This is his home too. In the meantime try and make amends with your mother.
“Okay, Sara. Before I got pregnant my mom bought me a cherry red convertible!”
“Oh, nice!” I replied with amazement.
“My grandmother paid it off for me!”
“Wow! What a nice gift!”
“Yes, it was, and I don’t know how to repay them?”
“I’ll tell you what you can do. Get them something nice when they least expect it.”
“That’s a good idea! But I have another problem.”
“What’s that?”
“I need to get my last two years of school completed at home.”
“Why won’t you find a job, pay a baby sitter and go to school?”
“I don’t want to keep going to school when students can tell I’m pregnant. They’ll make fun of me.”
“Well, you can have your mom set that up for you when the time comes.”
She sighed. “I wish things were becoming easier after Josh’s death, but they’re becoming more difficult.”
“I’m sorry, Susie.” I hugged her briefly.
“I fear that another guy won’t look at me twice now since I’ll have a baby.”
“Sure they will.”
“Yeah, until they see me holding my child or I tell them I have a child.”
I giggled. “You’ll find someone in time, Honey. You never know when you might find summer love!”
I remember who you had your eyes on a few summers ago.”
“Jake Walter!” We said at once.
She blushed. “Oh, yes, he was something else!” Susie smiled.
I smiled. “Do you still have his cell number?”
“I think so if he hasn’t changed it.” She took out her cell phone to look.
“I remember that girl he was hanging out with. Her name is Laura Hunter. She was all over him and his friends. I caught her making out and doing a little more with two of his best friends, but I acted like I didn’t see anything. I wanted to tell Jake, but I figured Laura would beat me up.”
Susie chuckled. “Beat you up? Not a chance! Oh, here is his number!”
“Call him!”
“I don’t think I should. He won’t want anything to do with me.”
“It’s worth a try! You never know until you call him.”
“Okay, here it goes.” She dialed his number and put the phone on speaker.
After a few rings someone answered. “Hello?” A guy responded.
“Is this Jake Walter?” Susie asked.
“Sure is. What can I do for you?”
“I don’t know if you remember me, but my name is Susie-”
“Oh, Susie, I remember you! How are you?”
“I’m doing well.”
“That’s good to hear. Listen I’m sort of busy. Why are you calling me?” He chuckled.
“I wanted to see how you were doing?”
“I’m fine. Thank you for caring.” They were silent for a few moments. “Susie, I really am quite busy I will call you later if you’d like?”
“Can I ask you one more thing?”
“Go ahead.”
“Are you still dating Laura?”
“I haven’t been with her since the night of the fair because my two friends told me they made out with Laura and did a little more.”
“Yes! That bitch got caught!” I stated. Then I covered my mouth forgetting he could hear me.
He laughed. “Excuse me?”
“I’m sorry. My friend is hyped up about something over there,” Susie said and gave me a, be quiet look as I apologized by mouthing, “I’m sorry.”
“Why don’t you and I go out to dinner tomorrow night to catch up around five?”
Susie looked at me not sure what to say. I urged her to agree.
“That sounds great!”
“I’ll see you then, Susie! Bye, bye”
She blushed. “Bye!” They hung up.<

Susie seemed to be very excited. “Susie, he seems really nice!” I said.
“I know! And I’m glad he found out what Laura did,” Susie stated.
“Jake’s friends betrayed him, but at least they were decent enough to tell him what they did.”
“What will I wear? I don’t want him to see my baby bump.” She queried worriedly.
“You can’t hide your pregnancy from him.”
“I won’t, but I don’t want him seeing that I have a belly because he’ll jump back into his car and drive away like someone is chasing him down in another car.”
I giggled. Since you’re not that far along. I have the cutest dress for you.”
“You’re a life saver! What would I do without you?”
“Go naked!” We chuckled.
“Sara, you’re crazy!”
We giggled. Then the power came back on.
“Well, lets get showers, and hit the bed. It’s very late,” I reminded Susie.
“We didn’t even realize we were sitting in the dark. Even the moon was shining in.”
I chuckled. “Yeah, that’s funny!” I hugged Susie. “Good night. If you need anything, don’t hesitate to come in my room.”
“Okay. Good night, Sara!” She headed upstairs, and I strolled to my room only to find Kaden asleep. I quietly showered, dressed for bed, then climbed in bed, and fell asleep almost as soon as my head hit the pillow.
Sooner than I realized it Susie was getting dressed to go out to dinner with Jake. She wore my white dress with the back outlining and the big red flowers. She also wore my pair of plain white shoes with the flower on the top of each shoe.
I did her hair and curled it making big loose curls. I even used my new makeup on her.
“Susie, you look like one hot mama! Can I take a picture of you?” I asked.
“Sure!” Susie answered as she giggled.
I got my camera and took a photo of her standing on the porch posing and touching her stomach. “That’s a hot mama!”
She grinned. “Sara, I’m worried!”
“Why would you be worried?”
“Maybe he won’t want to be with me.”
“You’re not even to the dating point yet and you’re already worrying.” I giggled.
Just then, Jake pulled into the driveway. He got out and came over to Susie and me.
“Wow, Susie you look amazing!” He hugged her and then shook my hand. “Hello!”
“Hello!” I said. Jake was muscular, with brown messy hair, dark blue eyes and the face of a downright hottie!
“Are you ready to go, Susie?” he asked her.
“I Sure am.” Susie looked at me, and I winked at her and raised my eyebrows up and down. She giggled.
“What’s so funny?” Jake asked her.
“Oh, nothing.” she said as he opened the car door for her.
I waved good-bye to them as they drove off. Then I went back into the house to find Kaden waiting for me.
“Your mom has called to tell you that she’s on her way,” he stated.
“Okay, I went to get my purse, I checked to make sure my credit card was in my wallet where I left it.
I traveled outside to wait on the porch for my mom. Kaden came out with me.
We were seated on the steps. “How’s Susie doing?” he asked.
“She’s doing better.” Just then my mom pulled up and I started toward the car. “I’ll tell you later what’s been going on with her.” I stepped into the car, and Mom drove off
“What spa are you taking me to?” Mom questioned.
“I saw a place called Tropical Spa on the outskirts of town. Let’s go there.”
“Oh, yes, I know where that is!”
When we got there, we did everything that was available to do. Finally we got our pedicures and French nails done. While getting our nails done, we talked.
“What’s been going on with you lately?” Mom asked me.
“Susie has come to visit! But she’s been having a hard time lately.”
“Why’s that?”
“Well, the guy she was dating passed away not too long ago. They were going to get married. To make things more difficult for her she’s pregnant with his baby!”
“Oh, my! How is she handling all of this?”
“She seems to miss him greatly, but she’s not getting depressed over him which is good. She went out to dinner tonight with Jake Walter.”
“Oh, that cutie from the fair she liked?”
“Most definitely!”
“Why did he take her out to dinner?”
“He said he wanted to catch up.”
“That’s sweet of him. Is she going to tell him about her pregnancy?”
“She said she is.”
“I hope he doesn’t hurt her feelings when she tells him.”
“He seems to be a sweet guy so I don’t think he’ll hurt her.”
“He might not, but there is always, “the but” that matters.”
“She’s asked to spend the summer with Kaden and I and she asked to stay with us when she goes to have her baby because she wants to have her baby at the hospital where she was born at, but I told her I would have to discuss it with Kaden.”
“I think she should stay with her mother and father, have the baby in Utah. She’ll need their help.”
“Susie says her mom is mad at her for becoming pregnant. She also told me her mom wants her out of her house before the baby is born.”
“Awe, her mom doesn’t mean that.”
“I told her to talk to her mom about the pregnancy. I don’t prefer to have Susie living with me when she has her baby. I agree that she should be at home so her parents can be there for her.”
“I think you were right by telling Susie that.”
After Mom and I finished with our nails we got into the ear and headed to my house.
When we arrived I invited mom inside to see Susie. But Susie wasn’t back yet so we hugged and she went home.
I strolled into the living room and sat on the couch with Kaden. We kissed.
“How was your day?” He inquired.
“It was nice to spend time with my mom.” I answered.
“That’s good!”
“I take it Susie is still out?”
“She sure is. I hope she is having a great time!”
“I’m sure she is. Jake seems to be a really nice guy.”
He grinned. Then we heard a car pull up. We peeked out the window to see Jake kissing Susie on her cheek. We backed away from the window smiling.
“I guess he likes her,” Kaden suggested
I smiled, “That was so sweet.”
“I’m going to start dinner for you while you two talk.”
I grinned, “Okay.”
Susie came in the door. I walked over to her and hugged her. She was smiling from ear to ear.
“You have a grand time?” I asked.
“I did,” she sighed.
“Lets sit in the living room.” We sat down.
“So what happened?”
“Pushy, are we?” She giggled.
I smiled. “I’m just curious.”
“Well, I had a blast. I told Jake about Josh, and he was upset for me. He told me he will take time to adjust to me being pregnant with another guy’s baby. He told me he’s always wanted a family, but not so early in life. He confessed he wished he had dated me over the summer of the fair incident, but he said it’s probably for the best that he had dated her. It was for a specific reason.”
“So what’s going to happen now since he’s not ready to father another guy’s baby?”
“He said he’ll keep in touch with me, be there when I
need a friend.”
“Do you think he’ll come to terms with your pregnancy?”
“I hope he does. I really like him. He’s so sweet and full of sprit.”
I grinned. “Just let him take time to adjust. He’ll come around.”
“Dinner is ready,” Kaden announced.
Susie and I went into the dining room and sat down to a plate of pasta, garlic bread, and a wine glass of water and soda.
“Kaden, this looks delicious,” Susie commented approvingly.
“It does. I just hope that it tastes as good as it looks,” I joked.
“Ha-ha! Very funny!”
“I love you, and I’m only kidding!”
“I know, and I love you too.”
“How was dinner with Jake?” Kaden questioned Susie.
“It went very well.” Susie responded with a smile.
“That’s good!”
After we ate, Susie and I cleaned up the dishes and kitchen while Kaden showered and headed to bed.
“I’ll see you in the morning, Susie,” I said.
“Okay. Good night.”
“Good night.”
She headed upstairs, while I walked to my room to find Kaden lying in bed.
“Have you taken the pugs outside before you came to bed?” I asked him.
“I did while you were washing the dishes.” Kaden said.
“Okay, I just wanted to be sure they went out I don’t want to wake up to a mess in the morning.”
He giggled. “No, they are fine.”
I grinned as I crawled into bed.
“Have you been feeling alright?” I asked Kaden.
“I’ve been fine, why?” Kaden responded.
“You’ve been going to bed before me and just not so talkative.”
He smiled. “No need to worry. I’ve been tired from all of the activities.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure.”
“Would you like for me to set up a massage at the spa for you?”
“That sounds relaxing and may help.”
“I had a massage, and it worked wonders.”
“Well, you schedule it for me tomorrow after we drop Susie off at the airport.”
“Okay, I will, I can’t believe she’s leaving tomorrow. I’ll miss her.”
